The British Canoe Union is the governing body for the Sport and Recreation of canoeing in the United Kingdom. It represents the interests of the canoeists at local, national, and international level and is a member of the International Canoe Federation.
The British Canoe Union is a private members club with limited liability status, which may, in its absolute discretion, accept or reject applications for membership, and is managed by the BCU Council. The Council is composed of directly elected members, and representatives of specialist and regional committees and the National Associations.
The BCU Council delegates responsibility for particular areas of activity to its Management, Regional and Specialist Committees.
